FUNAAB MOURNS MAMA HID AWOLOWO
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has joined individuals, groups and corporate organisations to mourn the demise of Chief Hannah Dideolu Awolowo, the Matriarch of the Awolowo family, at the ripe age of 99.
In a Condolence Letter addressed to the family of the deceased, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Olusola Oyewole, on behalf of the Governing Council, University Management, Staff and Students of the University, stated that “there is no doubt that Mama lived an exemplary life as a great mediator within the political amphitheatre in Nigeria and contributed immensely to its development as a pillar and inestimable jewel to the Late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo”.
Professor Oyewole, who is also the President, Association of African Universities (AAU), further described the departed wife of the late former Premier of the Western Region as “a mother-in-Israel and a leading heroine in the Yoruba history”, praying that "God grants members of her immediate and extended families, as well as the entire nation, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and a peaceful repose to the soul of the departed”.
